Policies and Practices

Makeup Policy

Unlimited make-ups are allowed on a space-available basis. Make-ups must be taken within the current semester.

Refund/Credit Policy
Tuition payment is due before the first class. Payment plans may be worked out on case by case basis.  No tuition refunds given after start of semester. Credit towards future semester issued if you withdraw before your first class. Partial credit may be given if you withdraw after the first class only in exceptional circumstances.

Class Cancelation Policy

If a class is canceled due to weather or any other reason, we reserve the right to provide the makeup class  in-person at a later date.

Taking Pictures in Class

While occasionally snapping a pic of your child in the class is fine, we want you to focus on modeling music-making for your child. The best time to take photos is during the play-along so that you can sing throughout the rest of the class. Please ask the other parents before you take or post a picture of them on social media. Please also let me know if you don't want to be photographed.

Maintain a Healthy Environment

Please do not attend class if you or your child is ill. If you or your child has had a fever, you must be fever-free for at least 24 hours (without the assistance of fever-reducing medication) before returning to class.

Help minimize germs.

The best defense against catching a typical illness is to wash both your hands and your child’s hands immediately after class.

Is it ok to bring snacks and toys?

Please avoid bringing snacks onto the classroom rug. In addition to being a distraction, we sometimes enroll children with allergies. Bottles, cups, and breastfeeding in class are fine when necessary.  Snacks are permitted on the green couches before and after class.

Timeliness Request

Please do your best to arrive at class on time – it will make your child's adjustment easier, and we do plan to start classes promptly.

What if a class is canceled?
If we have to postpone for some unexpected reason (power outage, weather), we will email and text. When a postponement occurs, we may tack the missed class onto the end of the semester, or a class may be rescheduled on another day.

Is it OK for more than one adult to come to class?

All parents, grandparents, or caregivers are welcome to attend class at any time – no need to ask. Whole family music making in your home is extremely valuable to your child's musical development, and attending class occasionally helps the other family members to join in at home.

May I Bring an Un-registered Sibling or Friend?
If you have an older child who is off school and you wish to bring him/her along to class, don't hesitate to get in touch with us for permission to attend. Siblings under 5 who are coming regularly need to be registered.

We may have room in classes for you to bring a friend. Email us to make sure there is room in the class.

Children aged birth to five and their caregiver (and siblings too) can participate in this enriching mixed age setting.  This class is the hallmark of the Music Together® program, nurturing a family style learning environment. The youngest learn from observing the older children, the older children learn from teaching and demonstrating to the little ones, and the parents enjoy the ease of having both ages together in one setting. Each child is free to learn and participate at their own pace on many different levels such as observing, moving, tapping, singing, chanting, exploring etc.

Lauren Zylstra is the Center Director and lead teacher for Music Together You and Yours. She graduated from NYU with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and has performed as an actor and singer in both NYC and Chicago. She currently sings and performs with Lux Cantorum, Chicago's premier sacred choral music ensemble. Her ability to lead families with warmth and great skill, remember names and details, and to incorporate the psychology behind the Music Together curriculum into her classes makes her a beloved local music expert and a great choice for your childs first music teacher. She is grateful to the Oak Park and surrounding communities for supporting her small business which has flourished since 2015. Lauren also works as a Center Development and Licensing Representative for Music Together Worldwide
